HIDIZS AP30 Music Boy Review - Headfonics

Headfonics gives the Hidizs AP30 Music Boy an overall score of 8.0. In the review, Meldrick highlights its comfortable tuning, extensive customization options, distinctive design, and accessory package built around portable use.

Distinctive Design and Practical MagSafe Use

Meldrick finds the aluminum AP30 dense and substantial in the hand. Its compact body combines a two-inch display with a directional pad, physical action buttons, and both 3.5mm and 4.4mm outputs.

The directional pad handles menu navigation, while the A and B buttons confirm selections and return to previous screens. Meldrick also responds positively to the textured ALPS volume wheel, which provides clearly defined adjustment steps and can be operated while the player is in a pocket or bag.

The included protective case and magnetic ring became one of the most practical parts of the package during his testing. Meldrick attached the AP30 to an iPhone 14 and used it as a USB DAC without leaving the player hanging from the connecting cable.

In his experience, the magnetic attachment supports a genuine everyday use case rather than functioning only as a decorative accessory.

A Natural and Forgiving Sound

Meldrick describes the AP30’s sound as neutral and forgiving, with natural mids and enough treble energy to keep the presentation lively.
Bass extends into the sub-bass without overwhelming the rest of the mix. The midrange remains natural and unforced, while male and female vocals retain body without becoming muddy.

Treble adds some additional sparkle to cymbals, synthesizers, and wind instruments. Across the earphones used in his review, Meldrick reports that this added energy did not become harsh or introduce sibilance.
He also found background noise essentially inaudible when using sensitive IEMs.
Meldrick evaluated the AP30 with the MOONDROP Blessing 3, Kiwi Ears KE4, and Kiwi Ears Orchestra II. His assessment presents the player as particularly well matched with efficient IEMs.

Customization and Balanced Listening

Headfonics highlights the AP30’s customization options as deeper than those offered by many competing players at a similar price.

The available controls include adjustable gain, selectable digital filters, and a graphic equalizer with presets and manual band adjustment. Meldrick found that a mild bass increase paired well with brighter IEMs, although he kept the EQ flat for his main sound evaluation.

He identifies the 4.4mm balanced connection as the preferred output for more focused listening. Its additional output power gives listeners more room when using compatible earphones and cables.

The AP30 can also operate as a USB DAC with a computer or smartphone, extending its role beyond local playback.

Overall Assessment

Meldrick sees the AP30 as a distinctive option for listeners who maintain an offline music library and prefer physical controls over a touchscreen interface.

His review particularly emphasizes the AP30’s comfortable sound, natural midrange, useful MagSafe integration, extensive customization, balanced output, and generous accessory package.
