HIDIZS MP145 PRO & AP80 PRO MAX Review - ROMADVD

In his latest showcase, Russian audio reviewer RomaDVD takes a look at a very special release from Hidizs: the new MP145 Pro planar earphones and a highly exclusive AP80 Pro Max Limited Holiday Edition audio player.

Starting with the MP145 Pro, RomaDVD highlights the ongoing partnership with the Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC). The "whale tail" motif is beautifully integrated into the earphones' large CNC-machined shells. Despite their massive size to accommodate the 14.5mm planar driver, he notes that they sit surprisingly comfortably in the ear. The accessory package is equally impressive, featuring a sturdy magnetic case, highly-touted "Anemone" silicone ear tips, and a high-quality modular silver-plated copper cable with swappable 3.5mm and 4.4mm plugs that RomaDVD says needs no upgrading.

A quick technical warning from RomaDVD: When connecting the MP145 Pro to a stationary desktop DAC/Amp (like the FiiO K9 Pro) without proper grounding, they can pick up a low-frequency hum. Touching the metal amp case stops it, which is why he highly recommends pairing these specifically with portable digital audio players.

Sound Impressions:

Bright, Open, and Highly Detailed RomaDVD describes the MP145 Pro's inherent sound signature as very bright, extremely detailed, and highly transparent, boasting a wide and deep soundstage. Because of this brightness, he strongly recommends using the Red (Bass/Dampened) tuning filters to achieve the best tonal balance.

Bass

Fast and Technical: This is not an IEM for extreme bassheads. However, the bass is incredibly fast, technical, and sufficient, reaching deep down to 30Hz with excellent texture and precision.

Midrange

Open and Stunning: The mids are exceptionally open. RomaDVD points out that acoustic instruments, particularly saxophones and violins, sound absolutely stunning and lifelike.

Treble

Energetic and Transparent: The high frequencies are highly detailed and bright. When paired with the Red filter, the treble provides brilliant clarity and air without becoming overwhelmingly harsh, making these IEMs perfect for orchestral, classical, folk, and rock music.

The Perfect Pairing -AP80 Pro Max

RomaDVD also unboxed the rare Red and Gold Holiday Edition of the AP80 Pro Max, which surprisingly includes a high-quality Christmas-themed thermal mug! The player itself supports up to 2TB of storage and features a multi-function scroll wheel with both 3.5mm and 4.4mm outputs.

Sonically, the AP80 Pro Max delivers a musical, engaging sound with a slight emphasis on female vocals and the upper-mid/lower-treble regions. The bass reaches deep, and the soundstage is dense and well-layered. Most importantly, RomaDVD concludes that the AP80 Pro Max and the MP145 Pro are a match made in heaven. The slightly musical warmth of the player perfectly tames the excessive brightness of the earphones, resulting in a beautifully balanced, highly detailed portable setup.

The Verdict

If you are looking for an ultra-detailed, expansive-sounding planar IEM for acoustic, classical, or rock music, the MP145 Pro is a stellar choice—provided you use the Red filters and pair it with a good portable source. When combined with the AP80 Pro Max, it transforms into an enchanting, top-tier budget audiophile experience.
